What is Tremblage?

With respect to horology, tremblage refers to a decorative, engraved finish that is delicately hammered onto a dial (or specific watch component) to create a finely textured surface. It is considered a classical ennobling technique whereby the engraver runs a tool called a ‘burin’ over the metal surface, using tiny back-and-forth movements, giving the technique its name taken from the French word ‘tremblant’ which means ‘to tremble’.
