Damasko Manufactory

With fully in-house capabilities and military-grade specifications, Damasko is more than a brand. It is a benchmark in mechanical watchmaking for those who demand more from their timepiece.

Mechanical Excellence

Damasko is a proudly independent German watch manufacturer, based in Barbing, Bavaria, known for its uncompromising focus on engineering, innovation, and precision. Founded as a materials specialist, Damasko entered the world of horology with a game-changing patent for ice-hardened stainless steel and has since evolved into a full-scale manufactory. The family-owned business now produces its own movements, cases, and key components in-house, offering an exceptional level of vertical integration rare in modern watchmaking.

At the heart of Damasko’s identity is a dedication to mechanical excellence. Its manufactory calibres, including the A26 and C51 series, reflect decades of research and development, with some models reaching up to 90% in-house production. These movements are paired with cutting-edge materials such as polycrystalline silicone springs, lubricant-free escapements, and nano-technology-based coatings, making each timepiece exceptionally durable, anti-magnetic, and resistant to extreme conditions. Notably, the DC56 model has been trusted by Airbus Defence & Space test pilots since 2007—proof of its robust real-world performance.

Innovative In-House Production

Damasko’s commitment to true in-house manufacturing is among the deepest in the watch industry. With a production depth of up to 90%, Damasko does far more than assemble watches – it designs, engineers, and manufactures nearly every component under one roof in Barbing, Germany. This includes not only complex movement parts like gears, screws, and silicon springs, but also visible elements such as cases, crowns, pushers, and bezels.

Such vertical integration isn’t just about control – it’s a deliberate pursuit of quality, precision, and innovation. Damasko’s pioneering use of martensitic, ice-hardened stainless steel set a new benchmark for case durability. Its proprietary DAMEST multi-layer coating protects surfaces from scratches and wear, maintaining a pristine finish for years. Inside the movement, the EPS silicone balance spring offers exceptional resistance to magnetism and temperature changes, delivering enhanced accuracy and long-term reliability.

What truly sets Damasko apart is the integration of material science with horological tradition. Each watch benefits from decades of engineering expertise, where patented technologies are developed not to follow trends, but to solve real-world problems. This rare level of in-house capability ensures every Damasko timepiece is both innovative and enduring – a tool watch made without compromise.

Developed Under the Toughest Conditions

Damasko watches are not just engineered for daily wear – they are developed to perform under the most extreme conditions imaginable. Since 2007, the DC56 has served as the official timepiece for Eurofighter test pilots at Airbus Defence & Space in Manching, Germany. Subjected to the harshest flight environments, including rapid acceleration up to 12 g, sudden depressurisation, and temperature swings from -40°C to +54°C, the DC56 has demonstrated unwavering reliability without a single malfunction.

These watches undergo rigorous testing in accordance with NATO’s MIL-STD-810 standards, ensuring they meet military-grade resilience for shock, pressure, and environmental extremes. The insights gained from this collaboration have driven continuous innovation across the entire Damasko range. Technologies like the EPS® silicon balance spring and the patented ceramic-bearing rotor were born from real-world demands at 12,000 metres altitude and later integrated into the broader collection.

Much like advancements in Formula 1 benefit everyday vehicles, Damasko’s field-proven developments enhance every model they create. From the cockpit to the wrist, the same performance-ready components and materials are offered to all Damasko wearers, not just test pilots. It’s a rare instance where extreme aviation testing directly translates to everyday durability and function, giving every Damasko owner access to tools trusted at the edge of human endurance.

Advanced Case Materials

While many watchmakers use standard stainless steel, Damasko has taken material innovation to the next level with its patented martensitic stainless steel – a proprietary, ice-hardened alloy developed in-house. This nickel-free steel undergoes a unique hardening process that makes it four times harder than conventional stainless steel, delivering exceptional resistance to wear and daily abrasion. The result is a watch case that maintains its form and finish for years, forming the perfect base for Damasko’s DAMEST® coating – an additional layer of protection against scratches and corrosion.

In addition to surface hardness, Damasko ensures functional resilience with built-in magnetic field protection. Watches in the DA, DH, and DC series feature a soft iron inner cage that surrounds the movement and shields it from disruptive magnetic forces. This triple-layered defence – hardened steel, advanced surface coating, and magnetic shielding – ensures that every Damasko watch not only looks refined but also withstands the harshest real-world conditions.

For its DS and dive watch lines, Damasko turns to austenitic German German submarine steel – the same alloy used in the outer hulls of advanced German submarines, including the non-nuclear Class 212. This material is not only fully corrosion-resistant under long-term seawater exposure, but also extremely ductile, meaning it can flex under pressure without fracturing. German submarine steel is naturally anti-magnetic and incredibly stable, making it ideal for watches that must endure both environmental stress and mechanical force.

Each case component – from the bezel and crown to the case back – undergoes surface hardening for added toughness. Screw-down case backs sealed with Viton® O-rings provide superior water resistance, further enhancing longevity. Sourced exclusively from German steelworks, these materials reflect Damasko’s ongoing commitment to quality, engineering excellence, and true watchmaking innovation from the ground up.

Sophisticated Magnetic Protection

Magnetic fields are one of the biggest threats to mechanical watch accuracy, but Damasko has engineered a robust solution. Every Damasko watch without a glass case back features an integrated magnetic shielding cage made from ice-hardened stainless steel. This precisely sealed structure, which includes the dial, movement ring, and inner case back, forms a Faraday cage around the movement, preventing disruptive magnetic forces from penetrating.

While standard mechanical watches are only required to resist magnetic fields up to 4,800 A/m, Damasko timepieces surpass this by a significant margin, offering protection up to 80,000 A/m. This level of shielding ensures exceptional reliability and accuracy, even in highly magnetised environments, making these watches especially suited to professionals working in technical or industrial fields.

Models crafted from austenitic German German submarine steel and instrument-grade stainless steel go a step further. These materials naturally possess low magnetic permeability, eliminating the need for additional shielding. This fusion of intelligent design and material innovation is just one of the many ways Damasko sets new standards in everyday wearability and engineering precision.

Rotating Bezels

Whether in classic 60-minute, 12-hour, or countdown format, each bezel is crafted from ice-hardened stainless steel and finished with the brand’s patented DAMEST® coating for superior scratch resistance. Three embedded ceramic detent bodies ensure crisp, precise rotation, while the scale is laser-engraved and filled with multi-component paint to eliminate the risk of fading or chipping over time.

Damasko’s bezels are more than aesthetic features – they are functional tools designed for real-world use. The 5–55 minute division allows for precise short-term timing, while the 1–11 hour scale is ideal for tracking second time zones – particularly useful for those coordinating across different regions. The DC8X series adds military utility with a reverse countdown bezel, enabling users to measure time remaining during operations or events where accuracy and awareness are critical.

For the DSUB dive watch line, Damasko utilises a unidirectional diver bezel made from corrosion-resistant austenitic German German submarine steel, built to withstand the harshest marine environments. A high-visibility luminous marker ensures excellent readability even in low-light underwater conditions, while the patented detent mechanism prevents accidental movement – ensuring divers can rely on precise decompression timing when it matters most.

Patented DAMEST Coating

Damasko’s proprietary DAMEST coating sets a new benchmark in surface protection for mechanical watches. This abrasion-resistant, multi-layer coating is applied at a thickness of 7 microns and anchored to the ice-hardened stainless steel case via ion implantation, forming an exceptionally durable bond. The result is a surface that is not only extremely scratch-resistant but also maintains its finish over years of wear. With a hardness rating of approximately 710 HV on the Vickers scale, the coating significantly enhances the case’s resistance to external stress and impact.

More than just a hard shell, the DAMEST coating works in harmony with the underlying martensitic steel to deliver a unique balance of strength and flexibility. The multi-level construction of the case and coating allows for subtle shock absorption, helping prevent cracking or deformation under impact. This innovative combination ensures that Damasko watches retain their aesthetic integrity while meeting the rigorous demands of everyday and professional use.

Pioneering Silicone Technology in Watchmaking

Damasko has long been at the forefront of silicone technology in mechanical watchmaking. Over 15 years ago, it became one of the first manufacturers to integrate silicone into key movement components such as hairsprings and escape wheels. With the development of its own EPS® hairspring made from polycrystalline silicone, Damasko set a new benchmark for rate accuracy and mechanical resilience. By 2008, it had already established in-house production of silicone balance springs and escape wheels – a remarkable achievement within the German watch industry.

Silicone brings several distinct advantages over traditional materials. It is non-magnetic, shock-resistant, and highly stable across extreme temperature fluctuations. Crucially, it maintains consistent oscillation behaviour regardless of environmental conditions, which significantly improves long-term accuracy and reliability. These properties make silicon ideal for watches exposed to challenging real-world conditions – a hallmark of the Damasko philosophy.

In a major leap forward, Damasko recently secured a patent for an advanced optical measurement process using white light interferometry and monocrystalline silicone. This cutting-edge technology captures up to one million images per second, allowing for ultra-precise mapping of deflection and angular deviations in the silicon hairspring. It is the first process of its kind in the world, positioning Damasko as a leader in horological microengineering. With this innovation, Damasko edges closer to its mission of building the world’s most robust and accurate mechanical timepieces.

Patented EPS Spiral - Silicone hair spring

At the heart of every Damasko movement is the pursuit of absolute mechanical precision. The patented EPS spiral, crafted from polycrystalline silicone, addresses key limitations of traditional steel hairsprings – including material asymmetry, sensitivity to environmental forces, and degradation over time. Silicone’s inherent properties make the EPS spiral non-magnetic, highly elastic, and significantly lighter, reducing centrifugal effects during impact and maintaining stable oscillation even in extreme conditions.

Unlike traditional spirals, which are mounted through thermal or mechanical deformation, the EPS is clipped into patented spring-loaded studs that allow ultra-fine positional adjustments without stressing the material. This intelligent design ensures a perfectly concentric oscillation and superior isochronism – the consistency of timekeeping across varying states of motion. Certified anti-magnetic to DIN 8309 standards, the EPS spiral exemplifies Damasko’s commitment to advancing mechanical watchmaking through thoughtful engineering and innovation.

Silicone Escape Wheel

The escape wheel is a crucial component within a mechanical watch’s escapement system, responsible for transferring energy to the oscillating balance and regulating the gear train’s movement. Damasko enhances this essential function by using silicone – a material whose natural properties make it ideal for precision horology. Silicone is amagnetic, corrosion-resistant, and significantly lighter and harder than steel. These characteristics ensure greater stability in the face of temperature changes, magnetic interference, and long-term wear.

Manufactured using deep etching processes, Damasko’s silicone escape wheels feature gear-optimised geometries and intricate contours that further reduce mass and friction. A silicone oxide coating adds another layer of performance by increasing durability and minimising contact resistance. This eliminates the need for traditional lubrication, allowing the escapement to run cleaner and more efficiently. The result is a boost in energy efficiency, extended power reserve, and a meaningful improvement in the long-term accuracy and reliability of Damasko’s movements.
