The Jaeger & Benzinger Edition 6 Grey Moiré is a remarkable expression of traditional watch ennobling and classical European craftsmanship. Combining a hand-finished Swiss manual movement with a dial created entirely in-house from sterling silver, this timepiece reflects a rare commitment to artisanal techniques that are becoming increasingly uncommon in modern horology. The name “Moiré” refers to the distinctive hand-guillochéd dial pattern that gently ripples outward from the centre post. Crafted from sterling silver and finished in black rhodium, the dial is engraved on historic rose engine lathes using techniques that date back more than a century. Rather than producing harsh reflections, the engraved surface interacts with light in a subtle, almost fluid way, creating movement and dimensionality that shifts throughout the day.
As with all Jaeger & Benzinger creations, the dial commands immediate attention. Each piece is entirely hand-crafted in-house, with the guilloché work executed by Jochen Benzinger himself. The darkened Roman numerals and flame-blued Breguet-style hands provide elegant contrast against the rich grey surface, enhancing legibility while reinforcing the classical aesthetic. The small seconds display adds refinement and balance, subtly differentiating the centre dial from the outer engraved field.
The Edition 6 Grey Moiré is housed in a 38mm polished and satinised stainless steel case made in Pforzheim, Germany. Measuring just 8mm in height, the case profile is impressively slim, offering comfort and understated presence. A sapphire crystal protects the dial, while a sapphire exhibition case back reveals the hand-ennobled manual movement within. The watch is paired with a hand-crafted leather strap featuring a practical quick-change spring bar system, with strap variations available depending on stock.
Even the presentation reflects the brand’s dedication to traditional craft. The inner leather travel case is hand-stitched in Germany from ox leather with a soft deer skin interior, designed exclusively for Jaeger & Benzinger. The outer box is produced by a master German book restorer using antique restoration techniques, preserving yet another fading art form. The Edition 6 Grey Moiré is not simply a watch, it is a complete statement of hand-made quality, precision, and enduring beauty.
