The contemporary interpretation of the Sinn 156.1 skilfully continues the traditional legacy of a timepiece that has captivated watch enthusiasts for decades. To fully appreciate the historical lineage of the 156.1 model, it’s important to know that its predecessor was the 155 model. As a successor to that timepiece, Sinn developed the 156 and 156 MILITARY models—both of which have become iconic in the world of watchmaking.
Contemporary Interpretation:
The innovative character of the 156.1 is evident in its in-house SZ01 chronograph movement, which features a jumping 60-minute stopwatch hand at the centre. This design allows for more accessible, faster, and accurate time recording, enhancing readability. The movement is housed in a newly designed 43mm case with a screw-in back, aesthetically inspired by its historical predecessors. Unlike the original model, the 156.1 now includes a sapphire crystal, offering greater scratch resistance.
The pilot’s bezel, captively connected to the case, rotates smoothly without detent—an innovation introduced in a SINN chronograph for the first time in series production. The TEGIMENT Technology of the pilot’s bezel is the basis for applying the durable Black Hard Coating. Unlike historical models, the bezel features a luminescent fixed point at twelve o’clock, allowing the reference time to be clearly identified in the dark. The luminescent numbers and hour and minute hands ensure perfect legibility, even in low light. The design philosophy behind the 156.1 is to continue proven elements while embracing potential innovations, resulting in a timepiece that is both historic and contemporary.
