The Benzinger x Habring² Jorge is the first independent joint timepiece from two of modern horology’s most respected houses. It blends Austrian movement making with German dial ennobling to create a compact, elegant watch that pairs mechanical clarity with artisanal depth. In Jorge, Habring²’s in-house calibre architecture meets Jochen Benzinger’s hand-guilloched dial work to form a cohesive whole that feels refined on the wrist and rewarding to study in detail.
At the heart of Jorge beats a hand-wound Habring² manufactory movement derived from the brand’s Oskar platform and adapted for this collaboration. The calibre brings a small seconds, a moon phase enlarged for improved legibility, and a pointer date, each set via thoughtfully placed correctors. Rate stability is supported by a chronometer-grade blue oxidised Carl Haas hairspring, KIF shock protection, a tangential screw regulator, and anti-magnetic escapement components. Power reserve is a practical 48 hours.
The movement finishing has been tailored to suit the watch’s purist brief. Rather than the open bridge layout seen on some GAP models, Jorge adopts a bridge architecture inspired by older Anglo-Saxon traditions for a clean and minimal appearance that still invites close inspection. Co-branding on the barrel and gear train bridge underscores the significance of the partnership, while a whimsical detail rewards a full wind – a small strolling Dachshund motif keeps watch over the 48 hour reserve.
Up top, the dial is classic Benzinger. The primary surface carries a barley guilloché that plays with light in a rhythmic pattern, while the sub dials are distinguished by a gentle ray motif. Applied and printed scales are set in warm gold chapter rings over a silky anthracite tone, creating depth without visual clutter. In keeping with the artisanal approach, the steel hands are made in small series and heat oxidised by Habring² to a rich reddish-brown hue, then fitted with hand-turned tubes for precise seating.
Worn in a slender 38.5 mm stainless steel case with sapphire box glass, Jorge achieves an elegant profile that sits easily under a cuff yet reads with presence. The double-sealed crown and sapphire caseback complete a case construction that is both robust and refined. A consecutive serial number between the lugs affirms Jorge’s place within a carefully produced series.
Jorge is, in spirit, an homage to George Daniels, whose influence threads through the watch’s design language. The union of hand-worked guilloché, measured mechanics, and quietly inventive details reflects that lineage with sincerity.
