Armin Strom Mirrored Force Resonance Zeitgeist 1665 3N

Description

Armin Strom Mirrored Force Resonance Zeitgeist 1665 3N

The Armin Strom Mirrored Force Resonance Zeitgeist 1665 3N brings together centuries of horological thinking and the technical achievements of modern independent watchmaking. Limited to just 25 pieces worldwide, this remarkable creation revisits the phenomenon of resonance through a design inspired by classical watchmaking. Its distinctive combination of 3N yellow gold-coloured movement components, polished black lacquer and traditional heat-blued hands creates an aesthetic that feels deeply connected to watchmaking history, despite the remarkable contemporary engineering at its heart.

The striking visual character begins with the manufacture’s skeletonised mainplate and bridges, finished in a warm 3N yellow gold-coloured PVD coating. Their matt surfaces provide a contrasting background for polished bevels, carefully finished screws and the movement’s exposed mechanical construction. An off-centre black “vernis laqué poli” dial introduces depth and balance, while stainless steel hands, manufactured, heat-blued and hand-finished by Armin Strom, reinforce the watch’s traditional influences. The result is an intricate mechanical composition in which every visible component contributes to the overall design.

At its centre is the manually wound Armin Strom manufacture calibre ARF21_ZG, featuring the brand’s patented resonance clutch mechanism. Inspired by Christiaan Huygens’ observations of synchronising pendulum clocks in 1665, the movement incorporates two independent regulating systems whose vibrations are transmitted through the resonance clutch. This mechanical connection allows the balance wheels to synchronise through the physical phenomenon of resonance, with the system engineered to maintain stable synchronisation under the changing conditions encountered on the wrist. It represents a sophisticated interpretation of one of traditional horology’s most fascinating principles.

Operating at 3.5 Hz, or 25,200 vibrations per hour, the calibre contains 260 components and 39 jewels. Two independent mainspring barrels provide an impressive 80-hour power reserve, while the twin-seconds flyback mechanism enables both seconds hands to be reset simultaneously. The movement measures 37.20 mm in diameter and 6.70 mm in thickness, with an open architectural arrangement that places the paired regulating organs and their mechanical connection prominently on display. This unusual configuration makes the process of mechanical timekeeping an essential part of the watch’s visual identity.

Traditional craftsmanship is fundamental to the Zeitgeist 1665 3N. The yellow gold-coloured mainplate and bridges feature hand-bevelled and polished edges, complemented by black-polished screws, perlage and circular graining. The skeletonised construction creates the impression that the resonance mechanism is suspended within the movement, allowing its mechanical complexity to be appreciated from multiple angles. Armin Strom extends its hand-finishing to components that are rarely visible and follows a meticulous double-assembly process, reflecting the manufacture’s commitment to both aesthetic refinement and mechanical precision.

The watch is housed in a 43 mm stainless steel case measuring 11.55 mm in height, with a lug-to-lug measurement of 49.60 mm. Anti-reflective sapphire crystals on the front and case back provide an uninterrupted view of the movement, while a dark grey Alcantara strap with matching grey stitching and a stainless steel pin buckle complements the warm gold tones and black dial. Water resistance is rated to 3 ATM. Produced in a strictly limited edition of 25 pieces worldwide, each watch features a case back engraved “1 out of 25”, marking its place within this exceptional expression of independent Swiss watchmaking.
