The Sinn 556 I F.A.Z. II G is a distinctive limited-edition timepiece celebrating the longstanding partnership between German watchmaker Sinn Spezialuhren and the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (F.A.Z.). Limited to just 100 pieces, this special release combines the understated, functional character of Sinn’s popular 556 collection with a fresh colour combination and carefully considered details that pay tribute to one of Germany’s most respected newspapers.
Created to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung (F.A.S.), the 556 I F.A.Z. II G introduces a silver electroplated dial complemented by striking green hands and hour indices. This unusual pairing brings a lighter, more expressive character to the familiar 556 design while retaining the exceptional clarity and balanced proportions for which the collection is known. Luminescent coatings on the hour markers and hour and minute hands further enhance readability in reduced lighting conditions.
Among its most distinctive features is a specially modified date display featuring the letter “F” from the F.A.Z. in place of the numeral “1”. This subtle detail creates a meaningful connection between the watch and the newspaper without compromising the clean aesthetic of the dial. It is a small but memorable design element that distinguishes this anniversary edition from the standard 556 models.
The 38.5 mm case is manufactured from satinised stainless steel, providing a restrained, contemporary appearance that complements the silver and green dial. Measuring just 11 mm thick, the case maintains comfortable proportions suitable for everyday wear. A scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment on both sides offers excellent dial visibility, while the screw-down crown and robust construction provide water resistance and pressure resistance to 20 bar.
Inside the watch is the reliable SW 200-1 self-winding mechanical movement, featuring 26 jewels, a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and a stop-seconds function for accurate time setting. The movement is also anti-magnetic in accordance with DIN 8309. Its operation can be viewed through the transparent sapphire crystal case back, which receives an anti-reflective coating on the interior surface.
The anniversary detailing continues on the reverse, where the winding rotor features an engraving of the iconic “Kluger Kopf” or “Bright Mind” emblem associated with the F.A.Z. advertising campaign. An individually numbered limited-edition marking completes the presentation, identifying each watch as one of only 100 produced. Combining Sinn’s established technical capabilities with a thoughtful tribute to Frankfurt’s publishing heritage, the 556 I F.A.Z.
