Moritz Grossmann Perpetual Calendar Rose Gold Charcoal
The Moritz Grossmann Perpetual Calendar Rose Gold Charcoal represents one of the most technically ambitious and aesthetically refined creations from the Glashütte manufacture. Designed to present an extraordinary amount of calendar information with clarity and symmetry, this timepiece demonstrates how complex mechanics can be rendered calm, balanced, and visually intuitive.
The anthracite dial is organised around a peripheral date ring displaying the full scale from 1 to 31. A distinctive bracket-shaped date hand frames the current date from the outer edge, ensuring legibility while avoiding interference with the central hour and minute hands. An inner ring with a fine sunburst finish adds depth and subtle contrast to the overall composition.
Day of the week and month indications are positioned on opposing subdials at 9 and 3 o’clock, creating a harmonious left-right balance. These subdials, along with the small seconds, are finished with delicate azurage, a traditional decorative technique that produces fine circular grooves and lively light reflections. Integrated within the subdials are discreet apertures for the leap year indication and a practical day-night display to assist with precise setting.
At 12 o’clock, the moon phase display provides a poetic focal point. A luminous mother-of-pearl moon glides across a goldstone sky, animated by tiny copper crystals that evoke the depth and sparkle of a star-filled night. This element underscores the astronomical roots of the perpetual calendar complication.
Powering the watch is the newly developed hand-wound calibre 101.13, a pure plate movement derived from the Grossmann 100.1 architecture and expanded with an intricate perpetual calendar module. In total, 401 components work in concert, including 211 parts dedicated solely to the calendar mechanism. The movement is finished entirely by hand according to the traditions of haute horlogerie, with untreated German silver plates, raised gold chatons, and refined steelwork visible through the sapphire case back.
Despite its complexity, the Perpetual Calendar is designed for intuitive operation. Recessed correctors integrated into the case allow individual calendar displays to be adjusted using the supplied tool. A particularly elegant solution is the sum corrector, which enables all calendar indications to advance automatically when only the date is adjusted after a short interruption in running.
