Description

Moritz Grossmann ART EDITION Max Frintrop – Stainless Steel
Model: MG-003580

Since 2008, Moritz Grossmann has been renowned for producing impeccably crafted watches from its esteemed manufactory in Glashütte, Germany. Now, through a creative collaboration with German abstract artist Max Frintrop, the company presents a strikingly distinctive ART EDITION watch in a strictly limited collection.

Limited to just sixteen unique pieces, each watch features an extraordinary dial handcrafted from fragments of artist Max Frintrop’s studio floor. Layers of paint accumulated over years of artistic creation form intricate, multi-coloured patterns reminiscent of natural geological formations.

Max Frintrop, born in Oberhausen in 1982 and now based in Düsseldorf, is known for bold, large-scale abstract paintings. He studied under Albert Oehlen at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf and explores profound themes such as capturing ephemeral moments and examining order within chaos. Frintrop’s approach resonates deeply with Moritz Grossmann’s own exploration of the philosophical dimensions of time and precision.

Christine Hutter, CEO of Moritz Grossmann, notes that the essence of a watch’s mechanical heart—its balance—echoes these same profound questions, translating energy into the rhythmic measure of seconds and highlighting time’s paradoxical nature.

The collaboration between Max Frintrop and Moritz Grossmann in 2025 bridges abstract artistry and precise watchmaking. Creating each unique dial required the careful removal of delicate paint layers from the studio floor, preserving only the topmost fractions of a millimetre. The dials, meticulously flattened and assembled, offer a visually rich experience—each a unique microcosm of colour, texture, and history.

Christine Hutter aptly describes this remarkable transformation as elevating something ordinary—an artist’s workspace—into a refined and meaningful object, embodying both transience and permanence.
