Description
MeisterSinger Pangaea Steel Blue – PDS917GLG
The MeisterSinger Pangaea Steel Blue brings one of the brand’s most recognisable ideas into sharper focus, pairing its signature single-hand display with a remarkably detailed dial and warm gold-coloured accents. Rather than relying on conventional decorative finishes, the deep blue dial is built around a finely textured pattern composed of countless fermatas, the musical symbol for a pause and MeisterSinger’s own emblem.
Viewed from different angles, the repeated fermata motif shifts with the light, creating an intriguing impression of depth across the dial. What initially appears to be a restrained blue surface becomes far more animated at close range, with the tiny repeating forms giving the Pangaea a distinctive character without compromising the clarity for which MeisterSinger is known.
The familiar MeisterSinger dial hierarchy remains intact. Applied two-digit hour numerals and hour markers provide the primary reference points, while subtle dots indicate the passing five-minute intervals. Slightly stronger markers distinguish the quarter and half hours, allowing the single needle-shaped hand to communicate the time with an intuitive simplicity that is central to MeisterSinger’s philosophy.
At the lower section of the dial sits the MeisterSinger Sun Wheel, a small but fascinating departure from the traditional seconds display. Rather than placing another hand on the dial, the wheel rotates once every minute, providing a gentle indication that the mechanical movement is running. It makes the passage of seconds visible without turning them into the dominant feature of the watch.
The 40 mm stainless steel case maintains the slender and elegant proportions associated with the Pangaea collection, measuring 11.7 mm in height and protected by sapphire crystal at the front. On this PDS917GLG version, a gold-coloured PVD bezel introduces warmth around the steel case and complements the dial details particularly well. Water resistance is rated to 5 bar, while the movement can be viewed through the mineral glass exhibition caseback secured by six screws.
Inside is the Swiss Sellita SW261 automatic movement, specially modified for MeisterSinger’s distinctive single-hand time display. Automatic winding provides a power reserve of approximately 38 hours. Together with the moving Sun Wheel, textured fermata dial and deliberate absence of conventional minute and seconds hands, the movement supports a watch conceived around a very different relationship with time – one that favours awareness over constant measurement.
