The Hanhart AQUASPHERE Matt Black brings a deliberately restrained aesthetic to the German manufacturer’s professional diving watch collection. Its matt black dial and ceramic bezel create a purposeful tool-watch character, while carefully contrasting polished, brushed and satin-finished surfaces give the 42 mm stainless steel case greater visual depth. Designed to perform underwater without appearing out of place in everyday surroundings, it balances serious capability with a clean, contemporary presence.
Legibility remains central to the design. A silver-coloured rehaut frames the black dial, while generously proportioned applied hour markers and clearly differentiated hour and minute hands make the time easy to read at a glance. The hands, indices and markings on the ceramic bezel are coated with Super-LumiNova® C1 GL X2, providing strong visibility in darkness, poor weather and underwater conditions. A red-tipped seconds hand and red bezel marker introduce controlled flashes of colour without compromising the watch’s understated appearance.
The distinctive black ceramic bezel features horizontally divided stencil-style numerals and rotates anticlockwise through exactly 60 clicks, with each click representing one minute. This unidirectional construction provides an important safety feature for diving, as accidental movement can only indicate that more time has elapsed, never less. Integrated lugs milled directly into the case contribute to the AQUASPHERE’s strong side profile, while crown guards help protect the screw-down crown during demanding use.
Water-resistant to 30 bar, or 300 metres, the AQUASPHERE Matt Black is built for recreational, professional and saturation diving environments. A helium escape valve allows trapped helium to leave the case safely during decompression after extended periods in pressurised chambers. The domed sapphire crystal includes an internal anti-reflective coating, while the screw-down case back is embossed with an underwater scene and individually engraved with a consecutive serial number.
Depending on the production series, the watch is powered by either the Sellita SW 200-1 or Soprod P024 automatic movement. Both Swiss-made mechanical calibres operate at 28,800 vibrations per hour and provide hacking seconds, automatic winding and a power reserve of at least 38 hours. The movements are dedicated three-hand configurations without a date display or unused ghost-date crown position, maintaining the watch’s functional simplicity.
Every movement is tested and regulated by Hanhart’s watchmakers at the company’s Gütenbach manufactory in Germany’s Black Forest. Averaged across six positions, the permitted daily rate is between 0 and +8 seconds, with no negative rate accepted in the primary positions. The watch is available with a lightweight Hook Strap™, an FKM rubber strap with folding clasp, or a stainless steel bracelet with tool-free micro-adjustment, allowing the AQUASPHERE Matt Black to be configured for diving, sport or daily wear.
