Description
Hanhart 417 Ti Desert Pilot Limited Edition 39mm
The 417 has always been one of Hanhart’s most recognisable pilot chronographs, and the new 417 Ti Desert Pilot Limited Edition gives that silhouette a thoroughly modern edge. For the first time, the familiar “ES” stainless-steel character is replaced with Grade 5 titanium, delivering a lighter, tougher instrument with an unmistakably technical feel. The matte finish sharpens the watch’s purposeful presence and reinforces its tool-first identity.
The story behind the Desert Pilot name is more than a colourway. This edition draws its inspiration from Hanhart’s PRIMUS Desert Pilot, a contemporary chronograph defined by its sand-toned dial, rugged finishing, and strap built for hard wear. That modern model gained real-world credibility on the wrist of rally driver Stephan Schott during punishing events such as the Dakar Rally and the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge, where legibility and reliability are non-negotiable.
At the heart of the 39 mm edition is the hand-wound Sellita AMT5100 M calibre, a column-wheel chronograph equipped with a flyback function. It is an uncompromising choice: tactile to operate, mechanically complex, and designed for precise, repeatable timing. Through the sapphire crystal case back, the interaction of the chronograph components is fully on display, turning a practical tool into something owners will enjoy studying as much as wearing.
Functionality is reinforced through classic Hanhart cues, including the fluted bezel with its signature red marking. Continuously rotatable in both directions, it adds a quick, intuitive timing reference that suits everything from daily scheduling to outdoor use. A dedicated Hanhart shock protection system further strengthens the watch’s mission profile, helping safeguard the movement when life gets dynamic.
The dial keeps the Desert Pilot theme front and centre, with a sand-coloured surface and stark black numerals that prioritise clarity. Super-LumiNova is applied to numerals and hands, though the colour pairing intentionally yields only a subtle glow rather than an aggressive night-time statement. A highly domed sapphire crystal completes the vintage-leaning profile while offering modern scratch resistance and strong protection against the elements.
Comfort is a key part of the titanium appeal, and the 39 mm case is matched with a rubber strap featuring a woven-like texture for a sporty, durable feel. A Grade 5 titanium pin buckle continues the lightweight material logic right down to the smallest detail. With 10 bar water resistance and a limited run of just 200 pieces, the 39 mm 417 Ti Desert Pilot stands as a focused, wearable tool chronograph with genuine Hanhart heritage running through it.
