Erwin Sattler Opus K 100 II – Natural Dial
The Erwin Sattler Opus K 100 II represents a refined interpretation of traditional German clockmaking, combining precise mechanical engineering with a contemporary architectural design. Built around a proven in-house movement, this elegant pulley clock introduces a newly developed case and a sophisticated two-part dial that enhances depth and clarity. As part of the Opus collection, it reflects Erwin Sattler’s dedication to precision craftsmanship and long-term reliability.
At the centre of the clock is the Sattler Calibre 1565-4, a meticulously constructed mechanical movement designed and manufactured in-house. Operating at a frequency of 4,320 beats per hour, the movement is supported by seven ruby bearings and four precision ball bearings, ensuring smooth operation and exceptional durability. The engineering behind this calibre reflects the brand’s long-standing expertise in creating mechanical timekeepers built to operate reliably for decades.
A defining element of the Opus K 100 II is its newly designed two-part dial. The upper dial plate features carefully crafted openings that reveal the calendar display beneath, creating a layered visual effect that adds both depth and technical interest. This architectural design integrates the day, date, and moon phase indications while maintaining excellent legibility and balance.
One of the most fascinating features is the extended moon phase display, which authentically illustrates the lunar cycle as seen from both the northern and southern hemispheres. The hand-painted moon disc shows the reversed orientation of the moon depending on the observer’s location on Earth, clearly marked with the letters “N” and “S”. This subtle yet thoughtful detail adds a level of astronomical authenticity rarely found in mechanical clocks.
The natural anodised dial version presents a bright and refined aesthetic. Its light-toned dial surface is paired with heat-blued steel hands, creating a striking contrast that highlights the calendar indications and moon phase display. The result is a modern interpretation of classical clockmaking that remains elegant and highly legible.
Encasing the movement is the modern Opus housing, finished in black lacquer with refined metal inlays. The anti-reflective, frameless mineral crystal allows an unobstructed view of the dial while preserving the clean lines of the case. A U-shaped glass door and carefully integrated design details emphasise the craftsmanship of the construction.
Practical features are also carefully considered. The Opus K 100 II offers an impressive 30-day power reserve, meaning the clock only requires winding once each month. The winding crank is discreetly stored in a concealed compartment in the base of the case, maintaining the clock’s elegant appearance while ensuring easy access when needed.
