Description
Erwin Sattler Opus K 100 II – Black Dial
The Erwin Sattler Opus K 100 II Black Dial presents a striking interpretation of contemporary mechanical clock design. Combining the proven engineering of Sattler’s in-house movement with a newly developed dial architecture, the clock introduces depth, contrast, and clarity to the Opus collection. The result is a sophisticated mechanical timekeeper that highlights both the precision of its movement and the elegance of its design.
Driving the clock is the Sattler Calibre 1565-4, a movement developed and manufactured in-house to meet the brand’s high standards of reliability and accuracy. Operating at 4,320 beats per hour, the movement incorporates seven ruby bearings and four precision ball bearings to minimise friction and maintain smooth operation over long periods of time. This robust construction ensures consistent performance while reinforcing the mechanical integrity expected from Erwin Sattler.
The dial is one of the defining visual elements of the Opus K 100 II. Its innovative two-part construction features precisely cut openings that reveal the calendar indications beneath the upper dial plate. This layered arrangement creates a sense of depth while presenting the day, date, and moon phase displays in a clear and balanced layout.
The moon phase display itself is particularly distinctive. A hand-painted moon disc represents the lunar cycle from the perspective of both the northern and southern hemispheres. Since the moon appears reversed when viewed from opposite hemispheres, the dial clearly marks the orientation with “N” and “S”. This thoughtful complication adds an astronomical dimension rarely encountered in mechanical wall clocks.
The black anodised dial version delivers a bold and contemporary aesthetic. Its dark surface contrasts sharply with polished steel hands, ensuring excellent legibility while emphasising the architectural layering of the dial. The overall appearance is modern and confident, yet it remains faithful to the understated elegance that defines Sattler’s clocks.
Encasing the movement is the modern Opus housing, finished in black lacquer with finely crafted metal inlays. The frameless anti-reflective mineral glass allows a clear view of the dial while maintaining the clean silhouette of the case. A U-shaped glass door provides visual access to the dial and pendulum while preserving the refined structure of the clock.
The Opus K 100 II is also designed for practical long-term use. Its weight-driven movement delivers an impressive 30-day power reserve, requiring winding only once per month. The winding crank is discreetly stored in a concealed compartment in the base of the case, maintaining the clock’s clean appearance while ensuring convenient access.
