Description
Erwin Sattler CLASSICA K 100 II M Black
The Erwin Sattler CLASSICA K 100 II M Black is a striking regulator pulley clock that blends astronomical fascination with traditional German mechanical clockmaking. Crafted in the Erwin Sattler manufactory near Munich, this elegant wall clock embodies precision engineering and timeless design. Its elongated case, suspended weight system, and pendulum regulation reflect the classical architecture of regulator clocks while presenting a modern interpretation of the concept.
At the centre of the dial is one of the clock’s most intriguing features: a moon phase display designed to represent the lunar cycle as seen from both hemispheres of the Earth. While the phases of the Moon remain identical worldwide, their orientation changes depending on geographic location. Observers in the Northern hemisphere see the Moon with its north pole uppermost, while observers in the Southern hemisphere see the south pole at the top.
The CLASSICA K 100 II M elegantly visualises this phenomenon through two hand-painted moon discs positioned within the dial. Each disc represents the lunar view from either hemisphere, clearly marked with “N” and “S”. Directional arrows indicate the rotation of the discs, providing an intuitive and visually captivating representation of this celestial difference.
The dial itself is constructed in two layers, creating a sense of architectural depth. Carefully machined cut-outs in the upper dial reveal the day and date displays beneath, forming a calendar layout that is both functional and visually engaging. This layered approach enhances legibility while adding an element of mechanical intrigue.
The black dial version presents a bold and contemporary aesthetic. Clean Arabic numerals replace the traditional Roman numerals used in earlier designs, bringing a modern character to the classic regulator format. Polished steel hands stand out clearly against the dark dial surface, ensuring excellent readability while reinforcing the clock’s refined visual balance.
Inside the case beats the dependable Sattler calibre 1565-4 movement. This precision calendar movement delivers an impressive power reserve of 30 days, driven by a pulley weight system and regulated by a finely tuned wood rod pendulum. The movement represents decades of horological expertise and meticulous manufacturing standards that have made Erwin Sattler clocks respected around the world.
