Mühle-Glashütte Sportivo Power Chronograph First Edition

Description

Mühle-Glashütte Sportivo Power Chronograph First Edition
Model: M1-52-33-2025-LB

Power is nothing without precision, robustness and excellent readability, all of which play an integral role at Mühle-Glashütte. In fact, these three nautical values have been at the heart of every wristwatch produced by the family company in Glashütte ever since 1996. The Sportivo Power Chronograph First Edition is a prime example of Mühle’s commitment to these values. It is therefore the ideal companion for anyone who masters every challenge with strength and stamina – be it with brain power at work or athletic power in their spare time.

When it comes to precision, it’s all about the movement, and at the core of the Sportivo Power Chronograph First Edition, Mühle-Glashütte’s second modular movement is as precise as it gets. The name MU9424-GR includes the calibre designation “GR” relating to the newly developed Mühle module as an enhanced version of the existing MU9413 chronograph movement.

GR is short for the German term “Gangreserve”, a power reserve provided by a new module mounted in a module plate on the dial side of the movement. The enhancement of the module is accompanied by further modifications to the movement, enabling Mühle-Glashütte to perfectly set the stage for the 62-hour power reserve. This includes adding a new spring barrel that is directly connected to the power reserve module and also using in-house CNC machining centres to add the necessary drill holes and notches to the base plate.

After many other processing steps, the final product is the pinnacle of precision: a 29-jewel Mühle movement with a particularly shockproof woodpecker neck regulation, a Glashütte three-quarter plate with a removable escape wheel bridge and Glashütte click and, last but not least, the efficient Mühle rotor.

These top-quality components are given the aesthetics to match: they are finished with the finest Glashütte grainings and polishings. Then the movement is mounted by hand and meticulously regulated in six different positions. In this process, the watchmakers at Mühle-Glashütte set it to ensure accuracy values of between 0 and a maximum of +8 seconds per day. The precision target forms the heart of Mühle’s own regulation standards, which are aligned with the chronometer standard and help to ensure that the watch never runs slow. After all, Mühle-Glashütte’s ultimate priority is making sure that its watches never make their wearers too late.

The robustness of the movement is reflected in – and protected by – the watch’s high-quality stainless steel case, which personifies power with its striking black IP (ion plating) coating, in which titanium or a titanium alloy is applied to the case in an ion beam. The chronograph also comes equipped with a 2.2-mm-thick double anti-glare sapphire crystal and an equally scratch-resistant ceramic inlay for the bidirectional bezel. As can be expected, this outdoor watch can withstand the elements, not least thanks to its 42.5 mm case diameter, screw-in crown with side protection and high watertightness of up to 30 bars.

The new Sportivo Power Chronograph First Edition is secured to the wrist with a watertight leather strap featuring an alligator texture and contrasting red stitching and coated in a layer of rubber for extra robustness. Be it in the office, on the pitch or among the waves, this new Mühle chronograph offers its wearers the best of both worlds: a sophisticated appearance and the strength to master the toughest of sporting challenges.

Mühle-Glashütte’s time measuring instruments all share the power of excellent readability, with Thilo Mühle and his team of developers making it their mission to ensure that “the time on our watches can be read at a glance”. A black dial and white hour indices with a generous coating of luminous material mean that the Sportivo Power Chronograph First Edition is no exception to this readability rule. Both the indices and the watch’s equally striking luminescent dauphine hands stand out perfectly against the dark, lightly textured background.

At Mühle, readability takes time measurement to a new level, and this is where the power reserve display and chronograph function come into their own. The power reserve display can be found in a semi-circular totaliser at the 6 o’clock position. It bears the traditional Glashütte “Auf” and “Ab” markings, with “Auf” (“up”) indicating that the spring barrel is fully wound and “Ab (“down”) informing wearers that the movement has fully run down.

The chronograph function complements the watch’s sporty character by allowing time measurements of up to 30 minutes with a minute counter located opposite the power reserve display at the 12 o’clock position. For a balanced appearance, the counter hand has the same red shade as the chrono centre hand and the background of the minute and second scale on the outer edge of the dial. Here, three fine indices divide each second interval into four small units, allowing wearers to precisely read stop times down to the nearest eighth of a second. If the chrono centre hand stops directly on one of the units, it gives a clear reading of two, four or six eighths of a second. If it comes to a halt between them, it indicates, for example, three eighths of a second.

“Power” is what makes this new Mühle sports watch so compelling, from its bold black and red colour spectrum to the power reserve itself. By combining it with “Sportivo”, the Italian word for “sporty”, which reflects the model’s dynamic, streamlined design, Mühle-Glashütte has given its new watch a name just as impressive as its aesthetics and function: the Sportivo Power Chronograph First Edition.
