Since 2007, the DC56 has served as the official timepiece for Eurofighter test pilots at Airbus Defence & Space in Manching, Germany. Subjected to the harshest flight environments, including rapid acceleration up to 12 g, sudden depressurisation, and temperature swings from -40°C to +54°C, the DC56 has demonstrated unwavering reliability without a single malfunction.
These watches undergo rigorous testing in accordance with NATO’s MIL-STD-810 standards, ensuring they meet military-grade resilience for shock, pressure, and environmental extremes. Every Damasko watch without a glass case back features an integrated magnetic shielding cage made from ice-hardened stainless steel. This precisely sealed structure, which includes the dial, movement ring, and inner case back, forms a Faraday cage around the movement, preventing disruptive magnetic forces from penetrating.
While standard mechanical watches are only required to resist magnetic fields up to 4,800 A/m, Damasko timepieces surpass this by a significant margin, offering protection up to 80,000 A/m. Three embedded ceramic detent bodies ensure crisp, precise rotation, while the scale is laser-engraved and filled with multi-component paint to eliminate the risk of fading or chipping over time.
Damasko’s bezels are more than aesthetic features – they are functional tools designed for real-world use. The 5–55 minute division allows for precise short-term timing, while the 1–11 hour scale is ideal for tracking second time zones – particularly useful for those coordinating across different regions. The DC8X series adds military utility with a reverse countdown bezel, enabling users to measure time remaining during operations or events where accuracy and awareness are critical.
For the DSUB dive watch line, Damasko utilises a unidirectional diver bezel made from corrosion-resistant austenitic German submarine steel, built to withstand the harshest marine environments. Damasko’s proprietary DAMEST coating sets a new benchmark in surface protection for mechanical watches. Over 15 years ago, it became one of the first manufacturers to integrate silicon into key movement components such as hairsprings and escape wheels. With the development of its own EPS® hairspring made from polycrystalline silicon, Damasko set a new benchmark for rate accuracy and mechanical resilience. By 2008, it had already established in-house production of silicon balance springs and escape wheels – a remarkable achievement within the German watch industry.
Silicon brings several distinct advantages over traditional materials. It is non-magnetic, shock-resistant, and highly stable across extreme temperature fluctuations. Crucially, it maintains consistent oscillation behaviour regardless of environmental conditions, which significantly improves long-term accuracy and reliability. In a major leap forward, Damasko recently secured a patent for an advanced optical measurement process using white light interferometry and monocrystalline silicon. This cutting-edge technology captures up to one million images per second, allowing for ultra-precise mapping of deflection and angular deviations in the silicon hairspring. It is the first process of its kind in the world, positioning Damasko as a leader in horological microengineering. With this innovation, Damasko edges closer to its mission of building the world’s most robust and accurate mechanical timepieces.
At the heart of every Damasko movement is the pursuit of absolute mechanical precision. The patented EPS spiral, crafted from polycrystalline silicone, addresses key limitations of traditional steel hairsprings – including material asymmetry, sensitivity to environmental forces, and degradation over time. Silicone’s inherent properties make the EPS spiral non-magnetic, highly elastic, and significantly lighter, reducing centrifugal effects during impact and maintaining stable oscillation even in extreme conditions.
Unlike traditional spirals, which are mounted through thermal or mechanical deformation, the EPS is clipped into patented spring-loaded studs that allow ultra-fine positional adjustments without stressing the material.
